We have begun meeting in book clubs twice a week. Occasionally your child may bring home their book club book to complete the reading before our next meeting. This reading should take priority over other reading for school and counts as reading time for reading logs. Right now we are focusing on the characters in their stories and how characters change over time. The children are making character maps or lists of character traits to support their reading and comprehension of the texts.

In addition to book clubs, which will continue periodically throughout the year, we are beginning a short unit on poetry. Your child will be reading poetry within class for the next several weeks and should look for opportunities to notice poetry within their daily lives.
